Click, click, bounce is how users read online – easily distracted! So your website should have great content.
Reading an article online is, you might be shocked (or not!) to hear, vastly different to reading the same feature in a newspaper.
Digital audiences are, we’re sorry to say, rather fickle beasts and it’s unlikely that they’ll reach the bottom of that perfect piece of prose you’ve written if you’ve posted it on your website or blog.
The internet is a particularly distracting place, with an awful lot going on, so holding someone’s attention for longer than a minute can be a bit tricky. Research suggests that they’re likely to share your story on social media before they even finish reading it, if they finish reading it at all. Once they’ve clicked that like or tweet button, they’re off on their world wide web travels and you might never see them again.
And even if they do scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you can’t trust that they’ve read every single word. In fact, the readers that are still with you at this point will probably have only scanned half a paragraph before skipping onto the next.
So how do you get them to read everything?
Well, sadly, you can’t but you can make your posts more dynamic by hiring an SEO company to help you boost your page rankings and bolstering your copy with infographics and video, online content tools that people really respond to. This also makes your posts much more shareable as well, so make sure you include buttons for Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Digg and Reddit underneath all images and videos so it’s not just your blog post that gets the share.
