How does SEO differ to Google Sponsored Listings?
Thinking about SEO or Google Ads for your marketing strategy? The difference between them is immediacy vs investment. Google Sponsored Listings (Google Ads) are immediate (within 24 hours). You pay for your listing each month and you will see your website on Google typically at the top, side or bottom and on the first page in the Ads section. Your Ad is listed in terms of your business or service keyphrases and your location.
Once you stop paying for your Google Sponsored Listings your website will appear no more. Of course your website will be listed if you type your domain name into the top address bar e.g. www.mybusinessname.co.uk.
But what if a user was looking for your service but doesn’t know you exist? A user will usually type “the service I want in the location I live”. Where will your website appear on the internet? If you don’t have a sponsored listing you will be somewhere amongst the millions -yes millions – of websites that are indexed for a search term.
How can you improve this situation without having to pay every month for a listings?
You can do this by having an SEO (search engine optimisation) campaign. This is a process of optimising your website pages, images, text and URLs so that that your website shouts “this is my product/service and this is where I deliver it!”.
The search engines “pick up” the messages that the optimisation is shouting and then indexes your website accordingly. BUT there is another necessary type of optimisation needed called off page optimisation. It involves your website being listed and linked throughout the internet. This process shouts out to the search engines “my website is great because these links and listings point to it”.
SEO is a longer term investment for a page 1 position in the natural listings
The better your website is optimised the higher it will be ranked with all other websites offering the same service/product in the same location as you.
